Born on 23 July 1990 in Jind, Haryana, Yuzvendra Chahal comes from a family where his father Mr. K.K. Chahal is a lawyer and his mother Mrs. Sunita Devi is a housewife. He has two elder sisters, Geetanjali and Neel. The family resides in Patiala Chowk, Jind. Chahal attended DAV Public School, Jind for his education. 

He plays cricket professionally for Haryana in domestic matches, Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL), and Northamptonshire in the County Championship. Chahal is known for his leg-spin bowling and made his mark by becoming the second and first Indian player to take 6 wickets in a T20 match. He also became the first concussion substitute to win the Man of the Match award in an international game. Chahal is the only player to represent India in both chess and cricket. He played chess in the World Youth Chess Championship but stopped playing when he had trouble finding a sponsor.
