Domestic Career
Nathan played club cricket for Western Districts and the University of Canberra Cricket Club in ACT Grade cricket. In 2008, he made his debut for the ACT Comets in the Cricket Australia Cup against South Australia’s Second XI and took a wicket on the first day.
In 2010, Nathan moved to Adelaide, worked at the Adelaide Oval, and played for the Prospect Cricket Club in South Australia’s Grade Cricket League while also playing for the ACT Comets in the Futures League.
Lyon was the top wicket-taker in the 2010–11 KFC Big Bash, helping the Redbacks win the title. He later played for South Australia in the Sheffield Shield and domestic one-day games.

On July 26, 2011, Nathan was picked for Australia’s Test squad for the Sri Lanka tour. He made his debut on August 31, 2011, in Galle, receiving his Baggy Green cap from Greg Chappell.
In November 2011, he made a unique record as a number 11 batsman by top-scoring with 14 runs in Australia’s total of 47 during a Test against South Africa. On April 24, 2013, Nathan was named the sole spinner for Australia in the 2013 Ashes series.
