Namrata began her career as a model and won the title of Miss India in 1993. She represented India in the Miss Universe pageant, where she finished sixth.
She appeared briefly as a child artist in the 1977 film Shirdi Ke Sai Baba opposite Shatrughan Sinha. Her first film as an adult, Purab Ki Laila Paschim Ki Chhaila, starring Akshay Kumar and Suniel Shetty, was planned but never released. She officially began her acting career in 1998 with Mere Do Anmol Ratan.
She gained recognition in 1999 with films like Vaastav and Kachche Dhaage, particularly for her performance in Vaastav. In 1997, she was cast in Purab Ki Laila Paschim Ka Chhaila, which was delayed and released in 2012 titled Hello India, which is considered her first film.
