Karoline Claire Leavitt is an American political aide and government official. She became the 36th White House Press Secretary in January 2025, serving under President Donald Trump. She is the youngest person in U.S. history to hold this position.

27-year-old Carolyn Claire Levitt was born on August 24, 1997, in Atkinson, New Hampshire, and she was raised Catholic. Her family ran an ice cream shop and a used truck dealership in Plaistow, New Hampshire.

Levitt became the first vice presidential press secretary to be inducted into the Trump Hall of Fame. During President Trump’s first term, four people were inducted into the Hall of Fame: Sean Spicer, Huckabee Sanders, Stephanie Grisham, and Kayleigh McEnany.

Karoline Leavitt attended Central Catholic High School in Lawrence, Massachusetts, and then went to Saint Anselm College on a scholarship for NCAA Division II college softball. At college, she was very vocal in supporting the Trump administration. She wrote articles in the school newspaper defending Trump’s travel ban and criticizing the media. Leavitt also founded the school’s first broadcasting club.

The Republican primary gained a lot of attention because both candidates, including Leavitt, had worked for the Trump administration.

Leavitt stood out by adopting a bold style similar to Trump’s, gaining support from right-wing figures like Lauren Boebert, Ted Cruz, and her mentor, Elise Stefanik.

She criticized her opponent, Matt Mowers, for receiving funding from outside PACs, calling him part of “the swamp” and “establishment Republicans.”

Leavitt won the Republican primary in September 2022, surprising many by beating Mowers, who had been leading in the polls.

In January 2025, Leavitt revealed $326,370 in unpaid campaign debts, including about $200,000 in illegal donations that violated campaign finance laws.

She had previously faced a complaint from End Citizens United for accepting donations over the legal limit and failing to repay her donors.
