A video of Jinna Han’s novice free skate from the 2025 Eastern Sectional Final has recently resurfaced.
Jinna, a 13-year-old figure skater, is being remembered for her warmth and talent, both on and off the ice.
She was one of 64 people who lost their lives in a tragic accident on Wednesday, January 29, when American Airlines Flight 5342 collided midair with a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter carrying three soldiers, according to CNN.
Jinna had been a member of The Skating Club of Boston since 2020, CEO Doug Zeghibe shared during a press conference on Thursday, January 30.

Jinna Han was a young figure skater from Mansfield, Massachusetts. She was 13 years old when she passed away on January 29, 2025, though her exact birth date has not been shared. Jinna lived with her parents—her mother, Jin Han, and her father, whose name has not been made public.
Career in Figure Skating
Jinna Han was a dedicated figure skater and trained at the Skating Club of Boston, a well-known training center for competitive skaters. She competed in the U.S. Figure Skating Championships held in Wichita, Kansas, from January 20 to January 26, 2025. After the competition, she was chosen for the National Development Camp, a program designed to prepare young skaters for higher-level competitions. Jinna practiced regularly at the club’s facility in Norwood, Massachusetts, focusing on improving her skills and performance.
Parents
Jinna’s mother, Jin Han, was very supportive of her daughter’s figure skating journey and often accompanied her to events. She was traveling with Jinna on the same flight.

Tragic Plane Crash
On January 29, 2025, Jinna and her mother were among those who lost their lives in a devastating plane crash. They were traveling on an American Airlines flight from Wichita, Kansas, to Washington, D.C., along with other members of the figure skating community returning from the National Development Camp.
The plane collided mid-air with a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter over the Potomac River, near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. The crash caused the aircraft to plunge into the river, leading to the tragic deaths of 67 people, including 14 members of the figure skating community.
Doug Zeghibe, the CEO of the Skating Club of Boston, confirmed the heartbreaking news, sharing the club’s deep sorrow over the loss.
