Chum Darang’s interest in beauty pageants started when she was 16, in 2007. A big milestone in her career was winning Miss AAPSU in 2010. She went on to compete in several national and international pageants, including becoming a finalist in Miss North East Diva in 2014.
In 2015, she was the second runner-up at the Miss Himalaya pageant. The following year, she won the title of Miss Earth India Water 2016 in the Miss Earth India competition. Later, she represented India in the Miss Asia World 2017 pageant, where she placed fifth and won the Miss Internet subtitle. She also held the title of Miss Tiara India International 2017 and won two subtitles: Miss Sports Gear and Miss Best National Costume.
