Amanda’s Faked Cancer and How ‘Scamanda’ Finally Got Caught

Amanda never had cancer, but she fooled over 300 people into believing she did. For nearly 10 years, she faked her illness and took over $100,000 in donations for fake medical bills. She also got free trips, gifts, event tickets, and babysitting.

She used her blog, and social media, and carefully took selfies to fake having Hodgkin’s lymphoma. From 2012 to 2016, she pretended to go in and out of remission four times.

Her story was featured in the 2023 podcast Scamanda and later turned into an ABC series. The Scamanda docuseries premieres on ABC on Jan. 30 at 9 p.m. ET, with new episodes airing Thursdays and streaming on Hulu the next day.

She admitted to committing fra*ud in October 2021 and was sentenced to five years in federal prison in May 2022. She was also ordered to pay back $105,513 to those she hurt.

She’s currently in pri&on in Ft. Worth, Texas, and is set to be released on October 15, 2026.
