Tania Sachdev is an Indian chess player who has held the titles of International Master and Woman Grandmaster. She is also known for her work as a chess presenter and commentator.

Tania Sachdev was born on 20 August 1986 in Delhi, India. Her mother Anju introduced her to chess at the age of 6. Her father Pammi Sachdev is a businessman. Tania has a brother who is a professional golfer and a sister named Amrita. She went to Modern School in Vasant Vihar, Delhi, and later graduated from Sri Venkateswara College, Delhi.
Tania’s parents trained her professionally in chess and she won her first international title at the age of just eight. She was coached by K.C. Joshi in her early years. As a child, she won several championships, including the Under-12 Indian Champion, the Asian Under-14 Girls Champion in 2000, and a bronze medal in the Girls Under-12 division at the 1998 World Youth Chess Championship. In 2002, she won the Asian Junior Girls Championship.
Apart from chess, Tania loves traveling and enjoying different cuisines and cultures. She loves reading books and shopping in her free time. Tania is also a public speaker and often speaks at various events to inspire others.

Career Journey Of Tania Sachdev
In 2005, Tania Sachdev became the eighth Indian player to be awarded the title of Woman Grandmaster. She won India’s National Women’s Premier Chess Championship in both 2006 and 2007. In 2007, she also won the Women’s Asian Chess Championship in Tehran, scoring 6½ points out of nine rounds.
In recognition of her achievements, she was awarded the Arjuna Award in 2009. In 2016, she won the Best Woman award at the Reykjavik Open and the Women’s Commonwealth Championship title in Kalutara.
Tania has represented India in several major chess tournaments, including the Women’s Chess Olympiad in 2008, the Women’s World Team Chess Championship in 2009 and 2011, and the Women’s Asian Team Chess Championship since 2003.
She also participated in the 2006 Asian Games and the 2009 Asian Indoor Games. At the 2012 Women’s Chess Olympiad in Istanbul, she earned a bronze medal for her individual performance on board 3. Over the years, she has won four team silver medals and four individual medals (three silver and one bronze) at the Women’s Asian Team Championships.
In September 2024, Tania was part of the gold medal-winning Indian team in the women’s competition at the 45th Chess Olympiad in Budapest, Hungary. In 2015, she also won a silver medal at the Asian Continental Women’s Rapid Chess Championship.
Tania has worked as a chess presenter and commentator. She created the Fritztrainer Strategy DVD for ChessBase and was part of the official commentary team for the 2013 world championship match between Magnus Carlsen and Viswanathan Anand. In July 2019, she won the Women’s Commonwealth Championship and successfully defended her title.
