Arjun Erigaisi is an Indian chess grandmaster. He became a grandmaster at the young age of 14 years, 11 months, and 13 days. He is also the second Indian player ever to reach a rating of 2800, after Viswanathan Anand.

Arjun Erigaisi was born on 3 September 2003 in Warangal, Telangana to a Telugu family. His father Dr. E. Srinivasa Rao is a neurosurgeon and his mother E. Jyothi is a homemaker. Arjun’s sister Kirtana has supported him throughout his journey.

Arjun was studying data science but decided to drop out of college in December 2021 to focus fully on his chess career. In 2024, playing for Team Alkaloid in the European Chess Club Cup, he defeated Dmitry Andreikin of Russia in the fifth round, helping him reach world number three in the live chess rankings.

Arjun became the 16th player in the world to cross the 2800 rating mark. He also won the 2024 WR Chess Masters Cup defeating Maxime Vachier-Lagrave of France in a tiebreaker, earning him €20,000 (approximately ₹17.75 lakhs) and 27.84 FIDE circuit points.

Arjun’s net worth is estimated to be between ₹10-12 crores (approximately $1.5 million), which includes chess prize money, sponsorships, and endorsement earnings. He recently signed a major long-term sponsorship deal with Quantbox Research worth ₹12.4 crores (approximately $1.5 million), one of the biggest sponsorship deals in Indian chess history.
