Dr. Abhishek Manu Singhvi was born on 24 February 1959 in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, to a Marwari family. His father Lakshmi Malla Singhvi was an expert on Jain history and culture, a respected lawyer and former High Commissioner of India to the UK. He also served as a Rajya Sabha member from 1998 to 2004. Dr. Singhvi’s mother is Kamala Singhvi.
Dr. Singhvi studied at St. Columba’s School in Delhi and then pursued higher education from prestigious institutions. He completed his B.A. (Hons.) and M.A. from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi University and later obtained a PhD from the University of Cambridge under Sir William Wade, a prominent constitutional lawyer. His PhD research focused on emergency powers. He also attended a short summer program at Harvard University.
Dr. Singhvi is married to Anita Singhvi, a ghazal and Sufi singer. The couple has two sons, Anubhav, born on 1 December 1984 and Avishkar, born on 12 October 1987.
