Shaktikanta Das was born on 26 February 1957 in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, and grew up in a simple family. He studied at Demonstration Multipurpose School in Bhubaneswar and later earned a bachelor’s and master’s degree in history from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi.
Although his background was in history, the skills he developed – like analytical thinking – helped him succeed in finance and governance.
In 2021, Utkal University conferred him the Doctor of Letters (D.Litt.) for his significant contribution to public administration.
